iTaste is the best restaurant guide for South Kensington

Bon, ben là c'est définitivement confirmé les "outre-manchiens" ont réellement du mal avec la chose culinaire ; en particulier, lorsqu'ils lorgnent du côté insulaire de l'atr gastronomique. G Ramsay aurait du continuer sa carrière footbalistique, à défaut il nous inflige des sévices "culinaires" depuis de nombreuses années. Correct au "Pétrus" londonien - pas de quoi casser une patte à une grenouille -, affligeant au Claridge. Ok, le cadre surranné de ce palace londonien, a tout pour glacer le sang : Agatha Christie semble tenir le couvert... La grande salle à manger est un comble de mauvais goût, et le service apprêté semble vouloir faire "comme si". Le menu dégustation présente peu d'originalité - et l'on s'en félicite par avance - mais son exécution confine à une indigence culinaire rarement atteinte. Ne serait-ce le caractère "grossier" de ce ratage, nous pourrions croire à une mauvaise blague de nos amis londoniens. Après 4 assiettes d'affliction, convocation du directeur de restaurant, incapable d'arguemter sur ce "Waterloo" gastronomique, qui nous renvoit sur le sommelier, d'origine française, qui à force d'arguments irréfutables et devant notre évidente et justifiée colère ne pût que nous confirmer que nous étions en Angleterre et qu'il ne fallait pas avoir d'exigence gastronomique, a fortiori chez G Ramsay, sinon "cela ce saurait".... Après négociation, j'obtins d'abréger nos soufrances et nous vîmes offrir un beau flacon de consolation - d'inspiration heureuse et ibérique. En somme, une soirée "gagesque" pour un établissement se voulant le fleuron de l'empire G Ramsay et dont il faut absolument se détourner....

Gordon est un chef admirable et francophile. Il est trop souvent critiqué, mais il est un des rares a representer le veritable metier de chef!...

We’ve tried a number of Gordon Ramsay restaurants both in London and the USA and have never been disappointed. We noticed a couple of differences about this one. First, it is in the Claridge’s hotel and the art deco setting is more old fashioned than the other GR restaurants we have tried. Second, the predominantly French staff was not there. I don’t think we noticed even one French accent – not that it is a good or bad thing, just different. However, the quality of the food was as high as we have come to expect. We sat down and were treated to the little amuse bouches served at his other restaurants. This time, I enjoyed perusing the wine list which came on an iPad. We opted for the tasting menu with accompanying wines. It started with seared loin and cured haunch of Muntjac venison, blackberries, hazelnuts, foie gras or Loch Duart salmon two ways, smoked and marinated, beetroot, horseradish ice cream; then sautéed John Dory and scallop, passion fruit, broccoli, puffed rice with bacon; mains were cannon of Cumbrian lamb, wild mushroom couscous, gremolata, soused tomatoes; then lemon pannacotta, fig salad, hibiscus sorbet; and dessert of cold Valrhona chocolate fondant, popcorn, raspberries, crème fraîche sorbet. By the time we had finished our chocolate, about three and a half hours after we started, we were offered a tour of the kitchen and from there, moved to a table in the lounge. It was a very smooth way of getting us to free up the table for another sitting. We were offered more drinks and brought bowls of chocolate truffles and mango and passion fruit gellies as we relaxed in the lounge....

Dans le petit quartier calme de Paddington au nord de Hyde Park, où l'on a déjà vu des chevaux attachés devant un pub (l'année dernière, pas en 1820), ce petit restaurant français au look de pub anglais nous livre une cuisine surprenante. Les assiettes sont vives, les cuissons parfaites et la carte offre beaucoup de plaisir avec une cuisine française au goût du jour, dans une ambiance chic, mais sans trop de chichis. La carte des vins n'est pas forcément donnée, mais réellement mondiale et bluffante dans l'adresse de la sélection (le boss est un brillant sommelier, anciennement au Gavroche). Le clou du spectacle : réserver la Chef's Table : on peut alors dîner au milieu de la cuisine, avec le chef qui vous fait le menu en direct. Ca en dit long sur la qualité d'une cuisine, d'accepter d'y recevoir des clients, non ? Waouh, quel souvenir !...

Jamais de déception à l'Angélus. Le problème c'est que l'on a tout le temps envie d'y retourner....

Très bonne ambiance, musique et déco très spéciale. Le bar est au rez et le restaurant est en sous-sol. C'est l'endroit que je conseille pour faire la fête à Notting Hill…....

SI vous voulez vous retrouver dans un décore de Gaudi, un manoir gothique et un château fort, je vous recommande le BBB!!!! Décor incroyable, qui nous transporte pour la soirée!!! La nourriture cuisinée par un chef français est délicieuse et les vins sont bien choisis quoique un peu cher!!!...

Lieu insolite avec décoration plutôt "unique". Très bien pour un brunch dominical entre ami(e)s....

mme c'est the place to be, pas facile d'avoir de la place. Music très forte… et peut être les prix ;-)...

Musique assez forte Absolument réserver à l'avance, sinon il faudra faire la queue et vous n'êtes même pas sûr d'avoir une place.....

Pretentious overpriced "International Cuisine" in a soul-less hotel-dining room with bright lighting and bad decoration. Empty....

absolutely delicious, beautiful table settings, great wines. Virginie Gaumont at the door got us a table at the last minute and introduced us to Helene! Really adorable....

Exquisite service for this two star Michelin restaurant. I have been disappointed by the service in other London Michelin starred restaurants. Here the waiters were attentive without being intrusive. The (very expensive) wines which were suggested went perfectly with the dishes. Hilarioulsy my main dish was called "Bouef d'Angus" - I am not sure the Scots would appreciate this. The curried scallop starter was at first taste surpising, but then convincingly tasty. The cheese selection exceptional....

Un cadre somptueux dans un hôtel très élégant qui garde une touche traditionnelle et royal. Une carte qui touche énormément a la cuisine française. Des produits de haute qualité et une technique d'éxecution de équipe Darroze a admiré....

Très bon restaurant indien - haut de gamme - prix en conséquence! Certainement un des meilleurs repas indiens que j'ai eu la chance de goûté, cuisine très fine, plats authentiques avec une touche d'originalité....

Greatly cooked seasonal food. Canteen atmosphere but elegant....

L'american style breakfast est délicieux!...

English style locally sourced organic food. The restaurant--Tom Aitken's bistro--has a loud, buzzing atmosphere, the tiled floors and walls amplify the noise. Clean modern decor which reminds one slightly of an abbatoir, with pictures of pigs and other animals on the walls. Good breakfasts and fun for dinner a deux. Macaroni cheese and truffles is delicious....

The restaurant is located in the Zetter Hotel which looks like a funky kind of hotel. The decor was certainly eye catching. The restaurant itself was more straightforward in its decor, rather classic bistro style with a bar, and hard back chairs. The many windows made it feel light and airy. Food was excellent. Starters were of a “revised” Lyonnaise salad which had more meat than I would have expected in a salad, beetroot ravioli, and snails, meatballs and mushrooms which sounds odd but worked well. For mains, we had quail and spinach ravioli, rabbit with root vegetables, and beef “Indochine” which was braised beef with Vietnamese elements. The wine list had a number of reasonably priced wines. Service from a young French waiter was charming. I would highly recommend this as a pleasurable dining experience at a very reasonable price....

Dans un univers tres industriel, the Modern Pantry offre une cuisine tres raffinee et rafraichissante; aubergines en caviar avec sauce au yuzu, bruschetta de fenouil, nems de petits pois a la menthe......

Boutique, resto.. Si vous avez de la chance vous pourrez avoir une table dans le jardin a l'arrière, c'est dément. Cuisine très simple mais délicieuse...

Ce resto, cattering, take away de Notting Hill tenu par un israelien et un palestinien est un delice pour les yeux, et le palet. Vous vous regalerez avec leurs salades, petits pois, harricots zeste d'orange , les aubergines grillées au manouri.....

Ambiance et cadre vraiment sympa...

Un drôle de truc branché et bruyant. Dans un froid glacial des anglais picolent. La température n'a pas l'air de déranger les filles qui sont courtes vêtues. Nourriture médiocre et vin infect. Y aller pour l'ambiance....

NOt really where you want to go for gourmet food, but a trendy spot nonetheless. Next to the cinema by the same name, it catches the see and want to be seen as there are many other more discrete hang outs in Notting Hill and this one is fairly new in some ways. We had several tapas: all delicious but french fries were soggy and wine (Malbec) was not a good one. Run by some French chefs and staff the result might be a bit better. Has too much the feeling of a place made for making money rather than good food and service. Area in the front is bright and lively. In the back is a more formal restaurant that is a bit dark and sombre....

Ca c'est bien les Français : à peine en Angleterre il faut qu'ils se précipitent dans un resto français ! Eh bien on m'en avait dit beaucoup de bien et je n'ai pas été déçu. On y mange une cuisine française très classique à un prix abordable ce qui n'est pas si facile à Londres surtout dans le très sélect South Kensigton ! Et en plus le restaurant possède sa propre boulangerie....

Dans un cadre immaculé de blanc, c'est l'endroit parfait pour aller bruncher!!! The place pour aller déguster les oeufs bénédictes!!! Les croissants au beurre sont aussi délicieux!!!...

Si les prix sont abordables, les portions sont très light également. Sinon, il est difficile d'avoir une table après 12 h 30 tant toutes les desperate housewives du coin s'y pressent nombreuses....

Un resto proche de covent garden.. pas de réservation possible mais vu la grandeur de l'établissement on peut être placé assez rapidement.. assez bruyant mais une ambiance sympa.. de la bonne nourriture j'y suis allé deux fois et j'ai testé deux fois la viande qui est très bonne.. comme toute personne non anglophone.. je vous déconseille fortement le pudding de noël à part cela c'est très bien.. la carte des vins est également très bien et les prix restent raisonnables.. un super resto pour aller manger à londres lors d'une visite...

Excellent atmosphere for cheap and cheerful brunch/lunch in the heart of Soho surrounded by trendy (and more normal) types. Perfect place for grabbing a mug of tea and a bacon sandwich, or something more substantial. You can also work on the laptop. Also in Angel and Hoxton....

The Engineer sticks faithfully to the formula that made it a leader of the gastropub phenomenon of the 1990s. Old favourites are forever turning up on the menu, but the cooking is well above average & the place has unerring support from its regulars. Quietly imaginative & successful dishes run from soy-cured salmon with Asian pear & wasabi crème fraîche, or grilled sea bass with Jersey royals, to pork tenderloin wrapped in Parma ham with braised radicchio. The thick organic burgers with coarse-skinned fries are exemplary. To drink, there are well-kept real ales & an interesting selection of wines. Staff are usually friendly, but can show attitude if you stray from where you’re seated & take up too much space. The countrified L-shaped pub area has the prime seating, offering the same menu as the more mundane dining areas beyond. Outside, the walled garden is lovely....
