This is a beautiful setting right in the middle of the village with a terrace for when days are warm enough and the sun shines. Inside the decoration is traditional wood panelling, with slightly more fun covers on the chairs (fake animal skins and brighter colours to make a very cosy atmosphere (although beware that private conversations will not stay private as one hears everything). Very upmarket clientele (slightly pretentious for Rougemont in my opinion) so you might not feel comfortable in jeans. Food is good but not always consistent and lacks that 5% more that could make 30% difference. Parking is easy at night less so in day time. Original menu and Fleurette in olive oil with truffles not to be missed as entrée....

J'apprécie beaucoup l'humour de Tschu et Sandra, on se sent très bien chez eux. La cuisine est bonne et le rapport qualité/prix est bon pour la région......

I had this soufflé au foie gras that was a true discovery. My neighbour had a thuna sashimi that looked nice and was devoured... We had à la carte, so I don't remember what everyone had but it was delicious. My other neighbour was still dreaming about his veal on the next day. In the end, we turned up the volume of the hi-fi and everyone in the restaurant started to dance... what a party.......

Rougemont is often referred to as the second best option for those who cannot afford to buy in Gstaad, which says very little of importance but does explain why its real estate prices are the second highest after those of Gstaad. When it comes to restaurants though there is not much to write home about with a choice between the rather pretentious Comptoir d'en Haut (with quite a regular following coming mainly from Gstaad) or a smattering of rather provincial fare. The Cafe du Cerf is reputed far and wide for having probably the best fondue in this region which is saying a lot for this humble little restaurant as this is cheese country and not far from Gruyère and Fribourg that produce the two cheeses that swim in the fondue itself. I do not think it is necessary to rank the quality of its fondue but certainly one can say it is a very good one. What should be pointed out is the lovely cadre of this "local." You enter the beautiful exterior of this typical Berner Oberland chalet to face the bar and the usual smattering of tables that surround the bar in such restaurants (and the locals that sit and hug their drinks) and then, passing a piano that apparently comes alive on the occasional Saturday night with folk music, arrive in the rear part of the restaurant where the cosiest corner is with 5-6 tables. This is almost the type of place to take over with a group of friends and sing until you drop. Wood is everywhere but not in the uber tasteful Gstaad style but rather in the more humble farmer style of this area which says "make yourself at home as no one is making a big fuss here." The service is friendly, efficient and fast but the emphasis is on friendly and not anything other than homely and simple. Everything seems served in a jiffy and with a smile and although not in any way gourmet, everything was tasty and enjoyable. It can be difficult parking in the village, so be warned you might have to walk 200-300 metres to get a parking and I am told to book ahead in high season as there are not many tables. In summer there is a delightful terrace in the back. The menu includes raclette and croute but not too much else so do not come here if you are not into cheese....

Enfin ! Un de mes restaurants préférés de la région. Il y a quelque jour j’ai pu enfin de nouveau dîner dans cet endroit unique. Quelle joie d’arriver dans le village de Rougemont tout enneigé et voir ce magnifique chalet (un des plus vieux du village). Nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir dîner dans la salle du fond dans la quelle il y a de la place pour environ seulement une quarantaine de personnes. Si vous êtes à quatre, demandez la petite « alcôve » du fond. Ce qui est très important de cet endroit, est la véracité du décor. Le vieux bois magnifique, les meubles, les différents objets des paysans, les découpages typiques de la région. Les peux d’animaux empaillés accrochés aux murs pourraient déranger certains mais ils font partie de la culture traditionnelle. Côté nourriture, c’est clair, au Cerf on y va pour la raclette ou pour la fondue, préparées avec des fromages de grande qualité. (Pas grand-chose d’autre sauf quelque plat pour les enfants ou de spaghettis pour ceux qui n’aiment pas le fromage) Ce soir là nous avons opté pour la raclette, précédée par de la délicieuse viande de Grisons coupée très fine. Le fromage est servi sur un réchaud à raclette qui permet aux différents convives, selon l’habilité individuelle, de se servir en grattant le fromage fondu avec une spatule, de belles portions plus ou moins grandes. Le tout accompagné, comment pourrais-je autrement, par un de mes vins Suisses préférés, l’Aigle Les Murailles. Vous aimez la raclette ou la fondue mangées dans une ambiance authentique ? Le Cerf c’est l’endroit à ne pas manquer. (Que ça soit dit, pendant toute vacance, Noël ou autre, il faut réserver bien en avance.)...

Restaurant tout à fait charmant et sympathique. Simple et à base de fromage. Le service est aléatoire mais l'ambiance toujours bonne. En saison le vendredi soir on y joue de la scie ce qui ajoute à l'endroit un air tout à fait authentique. Recommende ce restaurant aussi bien le midi que le soir....

Dans un des plus anciens chalets de Rougemont, à quelques minutes de Gstaad, dans un décor tout en bois sculpté vous y mangerez la meilleure raclette et fondue et viande des grisons. Si vous êtes dans le coin alors n'hésitez pas, vous ne serez pas déçu....

Recently opened and accessible in winter, has a great terrace and unique buzz. Ideal for walks and also for winter treks. Small menu as 2009 was first season, but Pat is putting his heart into it and it is a fresh change from everything else on offer. Parking great and you can view the art gallery next door at same time. Indoor space limited but great for private parties....

Pat and his partner have taken over a cafe that most people skipped or really only visited if they had to. Now we go out of our way to plan walks in the Sciernes Picat, one of the most beautiful valleys (and most deserted) in the Pays d'en Haut area. You can walk for five kilometers in almost any direction without bumping into a soul but the most beautiful walk is in the direction of Jaun and is used by snowshoers, touring skiers, walkers, and dog sleds. At the end of or before your walk, call ahead to book a table in this delightful restaurant. The menus can be quirky and the food varies in consistency but it is almost always good, creative and fun. In the winter, Pat serves a 100% Etivaz fondue with a series of dips for the cheese (that has delighted all our guests and is very original). This is a mountain restaurant so do not come expecting Michelin service or a full menu of food or wine. The selection is limited but good, the service friendly but informal, and the food good but simple. Make sure you drive a 4x4 if you come here after it has snowed. This is an excellent locale to book for parties (take the whole place seating up to 30). In the summer you have a lovely terrace. Art on the walls and in the adjoining gallery is for sale and is quite sought after in Gstaad....

Limited menu and wine list. Go for things cooked on the grill if possible. NOt expensive so you cannot complain about much. Service slows when there are a lot of people so chill and all will be OK....
