I recently asked some friends in Geneva (who have been here for a while) what there favourite restaurants were and this was listed as one of them. The list was mainly casual type places such as the Cafe Des Bains just to situate the list. While not really a restaurant, this is a bar/lounge in the newly renovated and quite attractive Mandarin Oriental (hence the "MO"). You can however choose from a fairly extensive menu for lunch and dinner which we did in quest of the holy iTaste grail.
We were told to try the tapas (supposedly Asian in influence) but there were steaks and several variants of traditional salads (you can have 4 kinds of Caesar's salad for instance).
We asked the Maitre d' (another one of those really professional ones) guide us and were not surprised to find beautifully presented food appear a little later. The wait was a bit long and the temperatures a bit off but overall the presentation is stunning and the tastes very good. Not quite as good as Yo MO I have to say but close (for a higher price mind you). This is not a cheap restaurant by a long shot (so make sure you are invited). Service was excellent or OK depending on who was serving at any one time so not quite as good as at La Reserve for instance. We stuck to waters (no wines) but did try desserts which were not very impressive. Overall a good experience if you want to pay this much for tapas but not one that I would go so far as to add to a favorite list. I do love eating lots of small portions though so will be coming back. Very comfortable chairs!!
Feels a bit too much like you are in a hotel environment.
