Trancoso is Brasil's answer to Ibiza but way behind in terms of density and not an island. It is a small town off Bahia's coast that has grown up around what it calls the Quadrado (meaning sqaure in the literal sense although the square is actually an elongated rectangle). Forget the semantics, this is one of the most beautiful spots on Brazil's coastline, which explains why it has developed so quickly and why it continues to attract Sao Paulo's best families. El Gordo, owned by a Portuguese, has a priviledged position on the cliff overlooking the beach and situated right next ot the church which is the fulcrum of the town. As soon as you step into the restaurnat you get that seen-it-in-Ibiza feel. Beautfiul people, tables set around a lit pool, and prices that veer upwards. Good food, good wine, alright service, and lots of people watching. Definitely one of your addresses when visiting this amazing place and before goig out to the clubs. You walk to and from the restaurant so allows or busing off some extra kilos.
Nada (well, maybe wine list could have been a bit more exciting)
