I have been dining at this amazing, family run, Relais et Chateau jewel for many years, and every time it is a new and awesome experience. This is simply the most enjoyable place to eat sensational, inventive food, and drink remarkable wines in a wonderful, spacious dining room, set in beautiful grounds, with 100% perfect service!
From the moment you arrive, you feel the passion and welcome of Jean-Louis and Susanne who made this place their home and their life 6 or 7 years ago.
Every detail is perfect from the beginning, including the bread selection and the beautiful butter. The current Head Chef, Philippe Augé is absolutely world class, displaying his talent through a treasure trove of amuse bouches, and a menu that is jam packed with dishes that can rival the best anywhere in the world. My fellow diner and I both chose Green Carnaroli Risotto with Frog’s Legs and Burgundy Snails in a mild Garlic Cream sauce - a gastronomic orgasm of flavours and textures; and then shared the Whole Bresse Chicken simply roasted with Herb Butter, served with Vegetables and Mashed Potatoes. There is an immense selection of perfectly ripe examples of the most exquisite cheeses; so many in fact, that they arrive on a board that it takes two people to carry, plus two smaller, but still large boards!
The pastry chef is clearly at the top of the game also, with inventive, well presented, and thoroughly delicious puddings. Coffee is accompanied by yet more chef's surprises including probably the best ganache anywhere.
There are many facets of this restaurant and hotel that make it such a memorable experience on every visit, but what really holds it together is the complete passion that shines through from Jean-Louis and Susanne - thank you both for creating and maintaining the perfection that is Hostellerie de Levernois!
Not a single thing I can think of would make this place better!
