Jam Pub

The Jam Pub is first and foremost a pub, but tucked away at the back are two dining rooms with attractive wooden tables and leather seating. From the outside the decor looks quite hip; the pub itself is nothing very posh but the restaurant area actually looks pretty cool. We had be warned by friends that the service can be slow but also encouraged to visit for the hamburgers so off we went. It was a Friday night and there was a large group of 30 sitting in the dining room next to us. I would strongly recommend to reserve especially on weekends. I am not a pub person so my appreciation for the people standing up with their drinks around the bar will go without comment. But the restaurant is worth visiting, although not if you have the experience we had tonight. The main menu, which you are shown in the dining areas, does not include the hamburgers so you have to ask for this (it is served more in the pub area). We all went for hamburgers. You get a list and tick of all the ingredients you want (plus fries and cole slaw): a great idea and kids will just love it. This said we waited about 45 minutes for our hamburger and when it arrived they were not all served at once and one had hot fries and two had luke warm fries. Not great but the waitress was really very friendly and even brought us some bread and sliced meat which they offered (well sort of because we had to ask for it and complain we were waiting so long). The hamburgers were OK (a bit over-cooked) but before dismissing this restaurant I would give it another shot. I do not think we saw its best face tonight and cannot tell how much this was a result of the large group that sat down just as we did. Certainly a great place for a burger with the kids and actually for a burger in general. Last but not least there is a whole menu of different dishes which looked good on other people's plates but which we did not try so cannot comment on.

The food was served very slowly; the fries were not all hot; and a few other small quibbles but on the whole a nice experience nonetheless.
