We were told this was the best restaurant in Seyssel and wanted to give it a try. Seyssel is the most adorable village, broaching the Rhone and joining the regions of the Haute Savoie and Ain only 35 minutes from Geneva. It is not at its best though and you have the impression it has seen much better days: many shops are closed and many houses have for sale signs in them, but I would bet my last dollar this place will once again bloom and be rediscovered in the years to come.
You can tell this restaurant is trying to be slightly upmarket and they have just finished a verandah which should be nice in the summer. It is in a key spot overlooking the river. But I have to say that on the food front our meal was close to being a disaster. The pate was Ok although tasteless and not at the right temperature. We all had the terrine. For main courses though, two of us had chicken that was absolutely awful and not at the right temperatures (it was stuffed with goat's cheese that was off or at least not suited in taste to the chicken. Vegetables were overcooked and the service was OK, but just adequate. We left with the certain conviction that we would not be returning to taste anything further and I regretted the lunch for the rest of the day.
